Many of us lead incredibly stressful day-to-day lives, filled with deadlines, time pressures and noise. This means it is especially important to take the time to unwind. Not doing so can have detrimental effects on our health, depressing the immune system and creating muscular tension.

One effective way to unwind is with a good massage. This can immediately relieve tension and provide an enormous sense of wellbeing.

Massage is a great relaxation therapy that can ease tension, anxiety and stress, symptoms. Regular massage sessions give an excellent 'feel good' factor as they are relaxing and de-stressing as well as being re-energising and stimulating. It helps to alleviate the build up of tension from every day use The basic goal of massage therapy is to help the body heal itself and to increase health and well-being. I use two different methods:-

Swedish massage uses deep massage techniques specifically aimed at relaxing the muscles. The main purpose is to increase oxygen flow to the muscles and help the body to remove the build up of toxins.

Hot Stones Massage combines the benefits of Hydrotherapy and 'Thermalism' (the use of heat applications) with massage strokes, using stones to create a deep relaxing and healing treatment.

Using the heat of the stones to warm the skin allows the skin to absorb moisturizing and therapeutic oils, while at the same time preparing the musculature of the body so that the therapist can work into the deeper muscle layers.

Indian head massage includes massage of the shoulders, upper arms, neck, scalp, face, ears and energy balancing. It is based on the traditional form of Champi (head massage) practised in India for over 1,000 years.

It is a wonderfully relaxing therapy. The massage is safe, and very effective. It can provide relief from aches and pains, stress symptoms, insomnia, promote hair growth, soothe, comfort and rebalance your energy flow which gives you a deep sense of peace, calm and tranquility. As well as all the benefits above, this rejuvenating massage can reduce ‘puffy’ skin under the eyes and ‘lift’ a tired face. It is practiced in the sitting position and you can remain fully clothed if preferred. The use of essential oils is optional.

Benefits of massage include:-

• Helps relieve stress and aids relaxation
• Helps relieve muscle tension and stiffness
• Improves circulation of blood
• Softens and moisturises the skin
• Stimulates the lymphatic system to aid removal of toxins in the body
• Aids weight loss

After treatment

Toxins that have remained in the skin and muscles may be flushed out and disposed of through the circulatory system, so I recommend drinking plenty of water to encourage the kidneys to dispose of toxins. If you feel faint, rest and drink more water. It will soon pass.
